We still have some things to hang around the house, but its starting to feel more like home.
We finally have closets that are put together & useable! The guest room doesn't have stacks of clothes in it anymore either!

I've been trying some new recipes lately and have gone back to some old favorites. I'm back on a Pioneer Woman kick. If you haven't tried her yet, you should. After living in Austin, I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob. I LOVE tortilla soup and have tried many recipes. This one, is one of my favorites so far. It was easy, the ingredients were simple and it made enough for Jason and I to eat 2 nights of leftovers (I froze half of it for another night and it froze well, FYI).
Pioneer Woman's Hot Roast Beef Sandwiches (or ham if you prefer) - Easy, make a dozen, and then wrap them in foil and stick them in the freezer for when you want a hot sandwich. Reheat in the oven at 350 for 25 min. I think I'll go lighter on the horseradish mayo next time though, Jason wasn't a fan of that flavor.
I am on a search for the perfect pizza crust recipe. This will be at least my 4th. Its still not the airy Italian style that I would like it to be, but this is one of the better crust recipes I've tried so far. It was easy and cooked up nicely. I used different toppings than her, so just skip down to the crust recipe.
This is PW's version of a soup they have at Olive Garden. Its her Sausage, Potato, & Kale soup. My Aunt Kathy shared it with me for the first time and its a great recipe. There are few soups that my husband will eat without complaint at dinner time and this is one of them. I skip the half/half and do a combo of 1% and whole milk to make it slightly more healthy.
I found craft stuff to make a wreath this week! I put ours in storage for some reason, so I was wreath-less :)
I visited the town of Bad Kreuznach this week. Its about a 40 minute drive from our house. The town is famous for its bridge houses. It was a cute town and the river running through it was really picturesque.
We did a quick trip to Brussels last weekend. I had a swim meet that I was coaching there and Jason drove up with me and spent the night. We only spent one evening in the city, but really want to go back.
We stopped at the Delerium Cafe, saw the Grand Place (above), and bought some Belgian chocolate. Next time it'd be nice to take the train there so we didn't have the stress of driving. Its about a 4 hour trip from us. We got the shell of one of the wardrobes built this weekend and it is a BEAST! This seems to be the never ending task! We need to get the other shell built today as well. We can't put the interior elements in until we get the correct screws so that we can secure them to the wall.... grr..
Ignore our mismatched dressers. This is how they will stay until we move back to the states and invest in some adult ones. There are 71 days until Christmas!
I'm so ready to decorate our house for the holidays! Nothing makes a place feel more like home than when its snowing outside and the Christmas lights are lit and you're drinking something warm with Christmas music in the background. The only thing that would make that moment better would be a fireplace, which I'm sad to say we don't have here! We've always managed with just two small trees. This year though, Jason and I will be on our own for Christmas for the first time ever. Its not really what we would prefer, but its just how things worked out this year. I'm hoping to go home in January to visit friends and family, but we feel its prudent to save the cost of a second flight home this year. That being said, I think its time to upgrade to a full size tree! Hopefully I can find a good fake one. Caring for a real tree kind of intimidates me! I found this Christmas Countdown clock today. In case you ever want to see how many more days there are! |
