Its been a busy couple of days! The above picture was from General's bath on Friday. All part of our pre-company prep work! Can you tell I've been starved for company? You'd think it was a bigger deal than it really was. I just like entertaining.
I'm back from San Antonio and although it was a good (and productive) trip, I'm glad to be home and am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I've posted about my love of Jonathan Adler before, but I just discovered how cool his lamps are today and have spent the past 30 minutes perusing the website. Its too expensive for us at the moment, but wouldn't the elephant lamp be cool in a kids room or a guest room?
I'm working on a blanket for a friend. This is the biggest knitting project I've taken on so far and it has been challenging. My pattern is seriously simple, but being a beginner, it still trips me up sometimes. Working on metal circular needles was a hard adjustment. I re-started it 3 times before committing to this final attempt.
I'll post more as I get further along! Can a day be exhausting if you barely left your house (and don't have kids)? I felt like yesterday was mentally exhausting.
An unexpected experience to do contract work for a former employer has shaken my quiet little bubble. In just a few hours I had a job offer, a flight booked, and meetings scheduled. It's a good opportunity because it will allow me to work from home and still explore other interests on the side. However, I feel a little behind the curve, as I wrap my head around these recent changes and all they entail. My daily schedules for the next couple months will be drastically different than I had originally thought! Bringing in money is always good though. Wish me luck! Yesterday on Design Sponge, there was a post featuring all things Boulder, written by a homesick Boulderite about how cool her town is.
I love Boulder and tend to gravitate that direction instead of Denver. Boulder is much more approachable in my opinion and it reminds me somewhat of Austin. I thought this little blurb in the Design Sponge post perfectly summed up this town I've grown to love: "For a long time, Boulder got a bad rap as the patchouli-scented free-love enclave that spawned Crocs, but it’s much more than that. The college town, endorphin mecca and tech hotbed is the kind of place where it’s impossible to get bored, sit still or go hungry. It was ranked the foodiest city in the country by Bon Appetit in 2010; is home to scores of creative thinkers, thanks to the University of Colorado; and is situated at the base of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. Boulder has grown up and gotten classier, and its hippie roots have shaped it into one of the most progressive, sustainable and fun places in the country." ~Design Sponge We've eaten at A LOT of restaurants in Boulder, but the article had some new ones I haven't tried yet. I've added them to our Colorado Bucket List! The above photo is from the Dushanbe Tea House in Boulder, which she lists as a must see and I agree! Its hard not to go overboard trying to research and imagine what our life will be like in Germany. What do we bring? What do we need? What should we stock up on? What will fit in our new home? What will our new home look like? How many transformers will I have? Can I use my vacuum? Are my coats warm enough? It can begin to spiral out of control quickly!
All purchases from this point on are made with these two things in mind: (1) Will we use it up before we leave? (2) Can we ship it or pack it? We do have the luxury of already having one international move under our belts, but I'm worried that the lessons we learned there won't apply to Germany. There are hardly two more strikingly different places than Kuwait and Germany! I've tried to keep my mental and internet wanderings on this subject on a short leash, but I have found a couple good websites. First, I have joined the expat blogging community (although its a little early, I know). I should have done this while we were in Kuwait because I get the sense from the sheer volume of Germany blogs by Americans that this adventure I'm about to embark on is a well traveled one. The Kuwait adventure though, I think, is really unique. Anyways, there are two links on the right side of my website that represent expat blogs. If you're interested in reading about other blogger's experiences moving and living abroad, I welcome you to explore! I found this site, An American in Wiesbaden, recently and its wonderful. I love hearing about the day to day trials that this girl has experienced, and seeing candid photos around Wiesbaden is awesome. The above picture is from her recent post: Scenes from a Snowy Sunday. I especially love her posts about traveling around. The thought of getting in the car and driving a couple of hours to France, Belgium, the Czech Republic or Switzerland are what my daydreams are made of! Check out her blog, if you're interested in getting a sneak peak into what our world could be like in the next couple of years! I decided to finally make the table runner that I bought fabric for last spring! It always takes much longer than I expect, but I think it turned out pretty good. Its very springy!
I purchased the fabric from Pink Door Fabrics on Etsy. I ran into Crate & Barrel this week and was loving all their new Spring inspired colors! I would love to find an excuse to buy the blue and yellow vase below :)
After a wimpy winter, I'm tired of hoping for snow and am now ready for Spring! Fun new music from Morningsiders. They were featured on Black Eiffel this week. I couldn't find them on itunes yet, but check out their video by clicking the image above.
